PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign
The National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign is an initiative designed to raise awareness and to educate students, teachers, school administrators, counselors, school resource officers, school staff, parents, and the public on effective ways to prevent or reduce youth violence. This initiative joined the Stop Bullying Now! Campaign as a partner and will feature Campaign experts in an article in its publication that addresses students who are bystanders to bullying.
National SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) and The Guidance Channel launched the National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign. It is designed to demonstrate the positive role young people can have in making their schools and communities safer. Activities are held throughout the school year and culminate in a week-long national, educational event. With the support of several national premier youth-serving organizations, each day of the week will focus on a specific violence prevention strategy. These will include:
- Promoting respect and tolerance
- Developing anger management skills
- Resolving conflicts peacefully
- Supporting safety
- Uniting in action
On the "Unite In Action Day" (April 8, 2005) of National Youth Violence Prevention Week, schools across the nation hosted conferences focusing on youth violence prevention. During these conferences, they held community roundtables and developed action plans to reduce youth violence throughout the year.
The campaign Web site at www.ViolencePreventionWeek.org serves as the crossroads for all those involved in the event.
